Today was a day like any other, except that I visited the city because I neglected to earlier in the week. Redd’s selling another Mona Lisa. Too bad I already donated a legitimate one. Would have been a nice forgery to have around. Punchy informs me that getting away from all the building gives him the opportunity to find spiders that look like cotton candy, or pretty flowers. Given that it’s Punchy, I’m assuming he intends to eat both of them. Speaking of cat behavior, Monique and Punchy were chatting it up, and then Punchy left, whistling happily. Makes me wonder whether there’s something going on there. I mean, they’re the only two cats in the town. The topic must have been breached at some point, if only for one or both of them to end it with “eww, no”.

It’s Black Friday, and Nintendo has decided to remind us to use the opportunity to buy more games by sending everyone a shopping cart. I guess Nintendo would be pretty supportive of the consumerist spirit, wouldn’t they? Don’t forget the exclusive DSi bundles. I’m a bit jealous that I already got one of those. It’d give me an excuse to own the new Mario vs. Donkey Kong and complete the Wario Ware collection. So it goes. The post Thanksgiving festivities are a bit dry, it seems. Hard to believe it’s almost December. Soon, Jingle will be here again, and I won’t care about that either. Yeah… I need to find some stuff to do.

Happy Turkey Day to you and yours. Franklin is of course going through his usual shenanigans with the mayor. I came in during the evening, and they were still chasing him. Punchy, meanwhile, has gotten all sarcastic on me, pretending to be overjoyed to receive a knife and fork for the festivities. Unless… he really has been waiting his whole life for this moment? Hasn’t he ever thought of buying a pair himself? I mean, I know Nook doesn’t sell them, but- well, now I’m all confused. And of course, Franklin’s supposed to be the butt of the joke, since he can’t take a hint when a letter inviting him there originally has “dish” in place of “guest”. Such species-ism against turkeys. Shameful.
Blanca’s here as well… for some reason. She wanted to look grumpy, and now she does. Hopefully some random stranger will be able to admire my handiwork.

Biskit advised me that for a new neighbor who just arrived at Shitton, one can’t go wrong with reading the signs posted around town. One of us is a one year veteran of Shitton. One of us just moved in. Guess which is which, and why I have a problem with this scenario? Pascal was hanging around today, which meant more seashell coming… all to get another keg. But of course, I’m looking to someone who thinks buying a kite to fly underwater is a good idea to read my mind and provide me with a cannon. At least I’ve got the one from the Mario series. Managed to talk Monique out of moving out. Didn’t even need to send her a letter. Which is great, because that would require dragging my keyboard from one room to another. Wouldn’t want to actually have do put effort into something these days, after all.

Vladimir is walking around town again, reminding me of the importance of mindful awareness while one walks. This is unrelated, but: one day I’d like to get him drunk and ask his opinion on Zangief from Street Fighter. And just as he’s at the height of his drunken rage and indignation, I’d mention Soda Popinski from Punch-Out!! Yeah, that should be entertaining. Monique’s trying to move out on me. Being a species-ist, I consider Monique a V.I.A., and so will do everything in my power to talk her out of it. Like sending her a letter. Tomorrow. I confirmed with Nook that I do, in fact, have a complete mush series. So one more accomplishment to check off. Now to remind myself that I still need to catch a stupid bee.

Found a lamp today, so I guess I’ve got to find Wisp this evening. I continue to find mushroom furniture in the same spot right by my house. So yeah, that’s convenient. Wisp was rather easy to find too. Just hung around the beach, near the area where I found him last time. He tried to hurry me into going into my attic, since he was afraid there might be ghosts or clowns around. The mention of ghosts, of course, is intentionally ironic. The fact that I was wearing a clown mask at the time was more unintentional.

It’s the Flea Market! And… no one’s selling gyroids. Bah. At least I got a shaved ice maker. I was pretty sure I already got one, but you know, to play it safe. Not that it actually produces shaved ice. The items rarely do what they should, if you ask me. But I can’t eat it anyway, so let’s move on.
I’m putting off trying to get some more storage as much as I can, but I’m sure it’s pretty much inevitable that there’s going to be hours of rearranging in my near future. Stupid mush series. Stupid lack of reordering holiday items. Stupid game! I hate you!
OK, see you tomorrow!

So, the fishing tourney is a contest to catch the largest carp. And of course, Chip has the guts to tell me, to my face, that crucian carps don’t count as carps. Was something lost in translation, or do I just need to hit him over the head? Think I will anyway. I won, of course. Biskit didn’t stand a chance. Sorry, newbie, but this is my town.
Just as K.K. Rock and Rockin’ K.K. are two different songs, so are K.K. Soul and Soulful K.K. So, I got the latter. It sort of reminded me of a song we used to have to sing in Music class that I hated, so not sure how long I’ll keep that in my music player. Yeah, let’s see what’s on tap for next week.

Tomorrow’s the Fishing Tourney. And then the Flea Market. Hey, events! Yay! Not sure how much I’ll participate in either, but gyroids are hard to come by these days. Brewster’s probably getting lonely. I have a new neighbor by the way. His name is Biskit, and he looks a bit like Stitches, except he’s a dog. And a stoner. Bonus! We tend to get a lot of those. And not just during the mushroom harvest, either. But they’re good neighbors. Completely unreliable, but good company.

No sign of any visitors today, so I went and hung out with my neighbors. Punchy was fishing… for compliments. I told him the checkerboard tee made him look cute, and then wondered if he compared to apple pie and espresso. Which didn’t make a lot of sense to me, until I realized: cats equate things being adorable with being delicious. Little baby mice, tiny little birds… all cute, all food for them. Not sure what the deal is with fish though. Then again, you’d probably never catch a cat diving into a river to go catch any of them, so maybe they are only eaten because they’re available.
Punchy really shouldn’t have espresso though. It’ll stunt his growth. He already has a giant head and tiny body.

OK, there’s that mushroom furniture. Took far too long, but I found the damn thing. Meanwhile, Redd sold me a new painting I’d never seen before! Yeah, forgery. Teddy was hanging around the city. He claimed my sneakers were too bright. I’m… pretty sure they’re not sneakers, so I’m wondering if he left town because he’s having a psychotic break. Quite selfless of him, really. Not that I miss him. No Sir. Just wishing someone would fill in the gap. In the town, not my heart. Anyway, no takers on both accounts yet. At least I saw Twiggy too. Cheepers!

Mushroom furniture… here, mushroom furniture… okay, forget it. I don’t care how much easier my days have been lately. My kingdom for a rainstorm. Digging up rare mushrooms is no fun if you no longer care about cash. Though I do still need a throne… if it ever shows up.

Damn you, Nook.

Always pulling me back in just as I’m about to get out!

Yup, Tortimer delivered. Which meant I needed to find more space for my town hall model to fit it next to the rest. It’s quite large, but also quite nice. And I have it and you don’t. Unless you do. I think this may be the first time I’ve gotten Tortimer’s stationary. Probably I’m just forgetful, but if not… what a long time to wait to complete your stationary collection.
Vlad claims that Nook was a bit of a troublemaker in his childhood, quite rambunctious, all that. I suppose such rebelliousness would push him to leave the town and try to fit in while living in the Big City. So it still fits my overall image of him.
Ha.

The gap where Teddy’s house once was is quite conspicuous. Mostly due to the dead grass. That really takes far too long to grow back. I think there’s still a gap where Coco’s house once was. Sunday’s quite quiet when you’re not concerned about Joan. I’m still Lyle’s best friend though. He doesn’t even complain about furniture facing the wrong way today. Went to do some more letter storage today. I’m about out, so I may have to consider going through the arduous process of finding and selling duplicates. That’s going to be a mess. I was sort hoping to put that off until… well, never.

Pete came to visit today, to give me a super special cake for the one year anniversary of City Folk! I don’t know how it kept intact through the mail, and I don’t care. It’s a two story one, with a little figurine of a human character and her house, presumably made out of frosting. Wait a second… if this is the one year anniversary, shouldn’t I be getting a town hall model from Tortimer? No wait, that’s the 16th. Hopefully. Hopefully Pete didn’t screw that whole thing up, since I’m not waiting another year. Guess we’ll find out on Monday. Don’t cry for him, Patty. He’s already dead on the inside.
I can’t believe I haven’t gotten Rockin’ K.K. yet. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this twice before, but the resemblance to Elvis Presley’s style of music is uncanny when Slider plays it live. Good tune, overall.

A morning flower-watering trip revealed that Teddy’s on his way out. At least I got to say goodbye. Hopefully he’s going to a town who can better appreciate his unique Irish heritage. Or put him next door to Gaston and watch the insanity ensue. I found out that Redd’s painting was new for the town, so I donated it. It’s a bit odd that Blathers says more when you give him a forgery than when you give him a legitimate painting. Now, granted, he’s probably more flustered when the latter occurs, but he’s also quite full of hot air, as he himself admits. Perhaps he just never studied art in university. What a shame.

Finally got over to Redd’s, in order to find a paper tiger. Huh. So there’s a common household item with that name, that’s literally a tiger made out of paper. Suddenly I understand a Calvin and Hobbes comic strip! It seems I overestimated how many empty letters I have in storage. Guess I need to start sending my neighbors letters. Preferably to make them break down and cry. I mean, it’s not like I do it to get rare furniture out of them. The bulletin board says it’ll snow this month. Does that mean the end to mushroom hunting? I’ve never really seen fungus jutting out of the snow, after all.

I kneeled down, surrounded by one of the groups of roses I had planted. Closing my eyes, I inhaled deeply.
Hmm.
That’s a bit overrated, I thought to myself. I can’t say I felt any deep sense of inner peace, or any particular benefit whatsoever. I mostly felt like I’m wasting time. But there was time to waste, and it was dark out, so there wasn’t not much better to-
Scritch scritch.
I jerked my head to the source of the noise. Behind the museum. I snuck around quietly, tiptoeing my way there, before peeking my head around to get a better glimpse of the source of it.
“Butch?”
My neighbor Butch jumped back, his eyes wide in surprise. One of the veteran residents of Shitton, Butch was a brown and black dog with floppy ears. He tended to be a bit of a grump, so I was a bit surprised at how friendly he was that night.
“Lady J! Uh, hi! Nice night for a walk, isn’t it?”
I eyed him quizzically. “Yes, yes it is. What are you doing up this late?”
“Well, you see, I, I was just enjoying the crisp autumn air. Isn’t it lovely, bonerbiter?”
“I suppose so. You seem nervous though. What’s goin-hey! Fossil!” I pointed to the star-shaped indentation on the ground. Butch’s eyes widened again.
“Wait, don’t-“
I ignored him, plunging my silver shovel into the spot and pulling up dirt. After a few clumps were freed, I found my prize. It… wasn’t a fossil.
“Hey Butch, you ever seen anything like this before?”
“Err, yes. It’s… it’s one of those-it’s a rare mushroom! Yes, a rare mushroom!”
“A rare mushroom?”
“Of course, bonerbiter! November is mushroom hunting season and you’ve just discovered a rare mushroom! Ooh, you’re so lucky!”
“Ugh,” I complained, covering my nose, “it smells awful.”
Butch began to pant.
“Yes, well, that may be, but those are the sorts of things that only appear when we’ve got a perfect town. You can sell them to Nook for a lot of money, you know.” He nodded quickly.
I looked down at my prize curiously. “Oh… great then! Thanks for the information, Butch!” I smiled cheerfully at him. He waved, and then quickly scurried off.
Butch is such a good friend.

Victoria informed me of her fear that the HRA might be inspecting her house right that moment… while the both of us stood in her house. Which, like all my neighbors, only has one room. Yeah, I’m more than a little worried about her. For some reason, I thought today was Wednesday, so I went to town. Got some nice gorgeous furniture, but Redd’s still out of stock. I’m pretty sure I heard a wolf comment that Phineas might be K.K. Slider’s day job, and I’ve got to say: that’s an incredible costume he’s got going on if true. I mean, far better than whoever it was on Bunny Day.
I still think it was Phyllis.

Contrary to what you’d think, the mushroom mural I shot down this morning is not part of the mush series. It’s confusing, I know. Things I need to do, but haven’t yet: put more stuff in letter storage. Find a place to spread out the purple and black roses. Buy the rest of the gorgeous furniture. See if anyone has the other paintings and wants to sell or trade. Catch a bee.
Yeah, and I’ll probably procrastinate on all of them.
